Chestnuts – SOLD

3000,00

Oil on panel, 60×90 cm

Walking through the churchyard in Warffum on a sunny autumn day, I fell in love with the interesting complementary contrasts of some chestnut branches, which had fallen in stormy weather. The reddish brown of the chestnuts peeping through their green shells and the ochres of the drying leaves against the purple coloured earth were too much to resist. I took everything with me in a bag (except the earth, of course) and painted the lot indoors, rushing as the chestnuts opened before my eyes due to the heating in my atelier.
